Anonymous asked: When a person refers to him/her/hirself as a trans man or a trans woman does that mean ftm or mtf respectively? I'm confused on how that works.
Terminology can be confusing, especially if it is really new to you. And there are definitely A LOT of different terms floating around in the queer community. To answer your question, basically…
Trans man = FTM = male identified
[you may also see people use FAAB (female assigned at birth)]
Trans woman = MTF = female identified
[you may also see people use MAAB (male assigned at birth)]
Some people prefer to use the term trans man/trans woman and may not like the term FTM/MTF. Others feel more comfortable using FTM/MTF terminology. It’s really a matter of personal preference. They are both widely accepted terms and the two are used interchangeably.
